Above lines show that dark horse means ability to defeat the strong team with surprisingly . Some sort of different result is expected in the exercise and then we can use the word like "Dark Horse". As we know that dark horse team seems strong enough in ccomparison to other horses.

In a daily life when a person  does his deed in a different way also seems to be a dark horse but there should be competition between different parties, then one of the competent may be dark horse.

The word dark horse basically used in sport and it is rarely used in other field. Some of the teams are able to defeat the strong team. The dark horse team has the ability to change the history and give the shock.  In 2014 FIFA World Cup Belgium was considered as the dark horse. This title comes with strength of the team like a dark horse is faster and stronger among the other horses. 2015 ICC World Cup is looking a dark horse like Ireland because it has defeated the stronger team like West Indies. The strength of the dark horse team come up with practice and perfect team build up. The key player's performance, team set up, environment, history etc decides a team to be a dark horse.
